Personal Care Aide (PCA-Weekend)

Course Description

Cardinal Institute for Health Careers’ Personal Care Aide (PCA)-Day education program is designed to provide practical training for individuals who want to provide in-home personal care aide services.

This PCA education program is 40 clock hours, divided as:

  • 24 hours of classroom instruction;
  • 16 hours of skilled technique.


  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must speak, read, write and comprehend English
  • Must have basic Math skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must have a government issued photo ID
  • Must have a social security card
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds throughout the entire class


Students will be equipped with a strong base knowledge in skills needed for client care the home setting. Students will meet the standards needed to provide in-home care to the elderly and disabled to safely remain in the residence of their choice.

Students will receive a certificate of successful completion of the course and will be able to be employed by various home health agencies as a Personal Care Aide.

Cognitive testing in form of quizzes/exams are given and the student must pass with an 80% or better and skilled techniques on venipunctures, skin punctures, etc. must be met satisfactorily for successful completion of this education program. 100% attendance is required.


At program end, upon satisfactory completion of all skills assigned and passing grade of 80% or better, the student will receive a certificate of successful completion of the PCA education program.
