American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Course Description

Cardinal Institute for Health Careers’ American Heart Association Basic Life Support education program is for adults providing direct patient care and health care profession students. This BLS education program is 3 clock hours, to provide education the following areas:

  • How to do chest compressions
  • How to deliver appropriate ventilations
  • How to provide early use of the AED
  • How to relieve chocking

Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must speak, read, write and comprehend English
  • Must be able to physically participate in chest compressions
  • Must be able to breathe through a mask
  • Must be able to stand or kneel for lengths of time

Completion Requirements

Program Completion Requirements

The instructor will provide the participants with guidance, direction, and coaching of the following and the student will need to successfully demonstrate the skills learned during this training program and successfully pass the written exam with 80% or better.

Certificate

Upon completion of the course, the student will receive an American Heart Association/BLS Provider Completion Card that is valid for 2 (two) years.
